What kind of technique were you trying out?
Typically I put the flat colours in, add shadows, tone, then lighting effects and clean it all up.
This time however I started with the darkest colour first (the colour of the face in shadow) then slowly added more and more light, kind of like building it up from a dark silhouette to how it looks now. Quite a useful way to do it, if you understand what is going to be lit you know what goes where and don't spend too much time trying to perfect it. Any reason for the recent monochrome space-themed pixel art?
It's a good excercise in minimalism, which largely defines pixels as a medium. But also I'm just interested in making a game with the look! A lot easier to develop all the assets if one's working alone, not having to worry about cohesion in color.
